Biography

       Yes, That's Me.

My name is Mark Amelse (Ah-mel-see). Born and raised in South Suburban Chicago (Calumet City, Illinois). I now live in Crown Point, Indiana with my wife and three of my five daughters. ( Yes, that's right 5, ranging in age from 23 to 5.) Being the only male...well let's just say I hold my own.  Three simple values; Honesty, Caring and Integrity form the basis of our lives. We believe in the goodness in all of us.

It's funny, as time goes by, it's the images of our lives we remember the most. I've spent more than half my lifetime creating images that can remain in the minds eye. The ones we can display in our homes, the ones we carry with us to proudly show. These are the portraits I specialize in. I love mixing photography styles, sometimes a candid moment, others a more emotional look into a subjects eyes. Black & White (sometimes with a little color to emphasize the characteristics of a scene), soft focus to bring more mood, or simple color seen in the most natural way. Throughout all, what I've come to understand as the most important aspect of great photography, is to control the light. That's what I specialize in, using and manipulating light to create some fantastic images.

I picked up my first pro-style camera over 27 years ago (Well now, doesn't that make me feel old.) I've always believed a great portrait shows the true emotion of the subject. No stiff contrived poses are found throughout any of my work. (Especially at Weddings. Why? This is a great day. Don't ruin it with unemotional pictures.) Hence forth my motto; Capturing the Natural Moments of Life. Live the moment, show the emotion. Don't let a photographer reinvent you! You, quite simply are you. This needs to come through in your portraits.

I guess you could say I've had a love of photography and the digital artistry for quite some time now. I learned to combine the world of photography with the digital world long before most photographers. Let's see, to start with I helped support my family by working in the consumer electronics retail industry. (Can you recall, Highland Superstores, Wards and Gateway.) Selling personal computers from their beginnings in the early 80's, (If you're old enough to remember this included the Commodore 64 and Tandy TRS80.) During these years, I photographed many weddings and family portraits, all the while giving the negatives to those persons, never intending to do this as a career. Still, friends and relatives urged me to become a photographer. They said this was my natural calling. So, with a final push from my wife and my sister Karen, here I am. I'm doing what I love to do.

Come on over, my wife makes some really great coffee. (I think she can literally just pump it into her veins.) I love to kibitz. As my wife likes to say, it's getting me to shut up, that's the problem.

Let my passion benefit you.

Sherri, I love you!
